Collected Works Bookstore welcomes Pocket Unit, a duo ensemble with
local poet and artist Lauren Camp and bassist Paul Brown. Pocket Unit
will present selections from Lauren's first collection of poetry, This Business of Wisdom.
Published in 2010, the book harnesses playful, pointed language, and
draws upon nature, music, dreams, and current events to explore the
process of gaining one's place in the world. Lauren has also released a
music/spoken word CD, "I Am and You Are," a collection of women's
voices that examines the issues and experiences of being female.
Camp
has performed at libraries, theaters, house concerts and cafes -
frequently in collaboration with jazz and experimental musicians. She
has worked with Theaterwork's company of poets and Tricklock Company to
create multimedia performances of poetry. In addition to her personal
creative pursuits, she is an engaged educator who teaches creative
writing workshops through Santa Fe Community College, SITE Santa Fe, and
the Georgia O'Keefe Museum. Lauren is also the host of "Audio
Saucepan," a mix of eclectic music and poetry, which airs Sundays at 5PM
on KSFR 101.1 FM.
Of Camp's performances, the
late poet Richard Atkinson noted "she can be alternately as serious as a
heart attack, or as humorous as a vaudevillian. Every face seems to
hang on every word."
